Lauren Ariel

Lauren Ariel is a mixed-and-multi media artist born and raised on the North Side of Phoenixville. Graduating in 2021 from The New School with a B.A. in Journalism and Design, her work is derived from a technique called transmedia journalism. Transmedia is the process of telling one large, overarching and seemingly ungraspable concept (something like classism or sexism, for instance) through smaller, more nuanced stories across multiple medias. As an artist, Lauren has taken the core tenets of that form and morphed it into their own Frankenstein’s monster: taking multiple art techniques, and layering them overtop of one another until the result is one howling, comprehensible, undenied feeling. The thematic beats that are present in their work are a direct result of the emotions and experiences they have had as a politically active journalist, both in the newsroom and as a civilian, and how those experiences have intersected with her identities. The result is something continually unearthed – a kind of death and subsequent rebirth with each layer added.
